Seasons 2 and 3 covered the second book, Foundation and Empire, splitting up the book's two parts. It made sense in the books, but Apple TV's take on Foundation understandably wants a group of recognizable and familiar faces.
Goyer
Foundation has added and changed several characters and storylines that never appeared in Isaac Asimov's source material.
Because Season 4 is opening without a time jump, this creative adaptation approach isn't as necessary.
For instance, Terrence Mann's Brother Dusk/Darkness functionally ended the Cleonic Dynasty in the Season 3 finale, leaving just three clone emperors breathing and with no way to create more. Season 4 will be looking to maintain that scale and the quality of the show overall.
Goyer Is No Longer in Charge
Foundation was created for television by David S. Goyer, and he has served as the showrunner and one of the primary writers during the first three seasons. After Season 3 paused production to address Apple TV's budgetary concerns about the show, Goyer came back as a producer rather than the showrunner. Executive producer Bill Bost inherited the responsibility and saw Season 3 through to its conclusion.
Although the identity of the Mule differs between the book and the show, Foundation Season 4 will follow in its source material's footsteps by also acting as a direct sequel. The dawn of its third season is a good time to catch up if you haven't already. ET. So while we will give you the stated premiere dates for Foundation season 3, keep in mind an invisible asterisk, as you just might be able to watch new episodes even earlier than midnight.
Otherwise, expect new episodes to begin streaming at 12:00 a.m.

Foundation season 4's cast is up in the air after season 3's dramatic climax. Some of the news surrounding Foundation Season 4 could be interpreted as concerning, but there's still cause to be excited about the epic space opera's return.
Beginning in 2021, Foundation has been an ambitious project from the start.
The 1953 effort picked up the Mule's story where book two left off, after the reveal of the villain's true identity. She did, however, secure the Second Foundation a new home as Bayta's control of Han Pritcher put the location of Ignis in jeopardy. Following Foundation season 3, there's plenty of story still to tell, and Apple and other creatives involved have shared some information on where things might be headed.
Foundation season 4 is confirmed to be in development with Apple TV+, lead co-showrunners Ian Goldberg and David Kob.
The pair took over the series following creator David S. Goyer's departure ahead of season 3, and have done a successful job landing the critically acclaimed third season.
Despite Goyer's leave as showrunner, he was still involved in season 3 as a writer and executive producer. When we say things are getting good, we mean it.
However, other than a few tweaks and tasteful additions, Foundation has managed to beat the odds and serve as an impressive small-screen translation of the iconic sci-fi novels. A Season 4 time jump would have wiped three actors from the cast, but following Asimov's blueprint means this won't happen. PT (3:00 a.m. So, in a way, the author is preserving characters who weren't even technically in his original story, because the clones aren't in the source material.
He claimed other writers and directors would also no longer be involved.
This could result in a change for the show's overall roadmap, as Goyer shared he wasn't sure if the new showrunners would follow his plan.

So here's something funny: Apple has a habit of premiering episodes the night before their advertised premiere date, usually at 9:00 p.m.
Instead, it's a direct sequel to Foundation and Empire. That said, his overall roadmap for Foundation's larger storyline has been handed to his successors.
But for those already in the loop who need a little organization around their summers in front of their TVs, well, you don't need Hari Seldon's equations for that.
As for the rest of the cast, it will be interesting to see how the new season handles their characters.
